The career opportunities in the sphere of religion vary widely and they are not all restricted to careers in Churches. Many people working the field of religion feel a sense of achievement that their job has a bearing on so many people’s lives. Practiced religious professionals hold various types of degrees, ranging from a high school diploma to a PhD.
What degrees can be earned from Christian Universities and what jobs are available in the field of religion?
In the 1800′s, those who chose to pursue a career in religion became the teachers within a community, since teaching was primarily achieved through the church. Nowadays, almost all professionals who work in religion are employed in churches, as religious leaders, teachers and counselors; a career in religion being typically positions of spiritual leader such as a Pastor, minister, rabbi, or clergy.
These professionals are responsible for teaching and passing along the religious traditions of their association with a particular faith, usually occurring through sermons and writings. Beyond the role pastor other opportunities in the field include Sunday-school teacher, missionary, music minister, or church administrator. Some of those interested in earning a Christian Universities degree may also choose to go into teaching and/or research at a university. Individuals in these positions are generally highly respected professors in their field. They are responsible for teaching, as well as continuing to research in their specific field.
What Christian Universities and Degrees are there in the field of religion?
Most professionals in religion, especially those who act as leaders in their religious communities, have at least a master’s degree. The requirements for gaining employment in this field, however, differ greatly depending on the associated religion. Most organized religions have a specific checklist of qualifications that are required to become a religious leader.
Some require merely a high school diploma, while others require a bachelor’s or master’s degree, plus other seminary training. The first step toward a career in religion, before considering a degree, is to do some soul searching into whether or not this is the career for you. Religious leaders have a big responsibility in helping people through their journeys of faith. Working in a university, as a religious professor or researcher, requires a PhD in a religious field.
How much money do Christian Universities grads make?
Only in the western world do religious leaders have much of a possibility of earning a substantial amount of money. The western churches tend to have a more commercial aspect to them and there is more money within these societies. Wherever you are, salary depends on the associated religious branch. In the Catholic Church, priests usually make between $15,300 and $18,500 a year, with all their subsidiary costs such as living and health benefits paid by the church. Other religions vary greatly depending on the community in which the church is situated.
Generally, the wealthier the community, the higher the minister’s salary will be. Jewish Rabbis, along with the Catholic priests, usually have their living and health expenses paid, along with a salary that varies dependant upon the congregation. A very broad estimate of salary range for ministers starts at $28,000 and goes all the way up to $150,000 a year. For those who choose not to go into a specifically targeted religious career, salaries can vary greatly.
